Aker BP field trial

June 7, 2024

CoreAll successfully completed a Field Trial for Aker BP on the semi-submersible rig Scarabeo 8. The trial included three runs from the seabed at 455m: two runs with combined drilling and coring and one extensive drilling run. This was the first trial offshore for CoreAll, and the first trial of the CoDril™ downhole convertible drill bit anywhere outside of test wells. The field trial was very successful with full LWC log recovery, core recovery and 9 CoDril activations. Based on this trial the ICS/LWC now is declared qualified for commercial service and the CoDril™ system is qualified for testing in actual reservoir condition. As the trials were performed in open water, from seabed, we are fortunate to present a ROV video of the conversion from drilling to coring here https://vimeo.com/964290302

Gassnova/CLIMIT supports the eXRES R&D

July 4, 2023

Gassnova through its CLIMIT program supports R&D initiatives for CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage). The eXRES project as part of CoreAll’s initiatives has a great potential to reduce cost associated with coring operations, up to 40%-50% of the time and cost to drill and core a CCUS reservoir. CCUS prospects have substantial need for coring, both in the caprock, reservoir and bedrock, both to verify CO2 injection capabilities and the sealing capacity. Support from Gassnova / CLIMIT has a releasing effect on the eXRES project, which now can continue.

Aker BP supports eXRES R&D

April 28, 2023

A contract has been signed with Aker BP to support the next phases of the eXRES External Resistivity project. Development of the eXRES is crucial for operators like Aker BP to take full advantage of the CoDril™ downhole convertible drill bit technology, enabling the operator to obtain continuous Gamma Ray and resistivity logs and both drilling and coring modes and make real-time decisions and when to core and when to drill. The next phases of the eXRES project are the development and testing of a lab prototype, and the development and testing of a field prototype. Support from Aker BP is instrumental to continuing the eXRES project.

CoDril™ successful well test

October 12, 2022

A very successful well test was performed at X-rig of the CoDril™ downhole convertible drill bit. A 21m cement plug was installed in a shallow test well. The CoDril™ was surface tested to verify conversion between coring and drilling modes. The first 6m of cement was cored, then the CoDril™ was converted to drilling mode by simply sending a downlink with the mud pumps. 14m hard cement was drilled, then the system converted back to coring for the last 1m. Total achievement was 6m core, 14m drilled and 1m core, with 100% core recovery. This was the first time anywhere that a single system was used to perform 3 drilling operations without tripping, anywhere. The quality of the 6m core that was subject to hard drilling and the last 1m core which was not subject to drilling was the same.

Coring Hard Rock in a Test Well

January 28, 2022

As part of the rigorous testing of the CoreAll downhole equipment, a coring test was performed on the X-rig outside Stavanger, Norway. The deepest test well on the rig was extended by coring basement rock at 466m to 468m. Very hard coring was performed, with ROP’s around 1m/hr. The core was successfully cut and retrieved and is being displayed at X-rig today. A special hard-rock core bit manufactured by Micon was used. The core bit was in remarkable shape after the coring and can be re-used without refurbishment. The core bit was scanned with the APIteq 3DRILL drill bit scanner to verify any damage (or absence thereof).

eXRES R&D project completed phase 1

October 12, 2021

CoreAll is working on the development of a new resistivity sensor for the LWC Logging While Coring tool. The first phase of the project, a feasibility study, was completed on October 12. The study has been performed by Rocky Point Energy Consultants in Houston, Texas and confirms that it is possible to develop an electromagnetic wave resistivity tool for a Logging While Coring application. The eXRES External Resistivity will use traditional LWD technology to deliver resistivity in both coring and drilling modes, and in any mud type. The feasibility study was sponsored by Lundin Petroleum Norway.

Successful pilot test in Norway

October 20, 2017

The Intelligent Coring System (ICS) was recently tested in a shallow well at Xrig, Ålgård Technology Park, Norway. Coring cement in a pre-drilled wellbore, the system provided 100% core recovery in three out of four runs, all the while delivering gamma ray and resistivity data to surface in real time with 100% data decoding.

In addition to formation and fluid logging data, a novel measurement of inner barrel relative rotation was transmitted. These data proved very valuable in the diagnostics of downhole conditions and coring efficiency, allowing earlier and more precise adjustment of operational parameters
